There’s been a ton of buzz about the Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration. The album will be out November 1 in North America through Warner Bros., and October 31 everywhere else through Universal Music. You can stream the 30-second preview clips below. What think?

My first reaction was blech, but on a second listen I’m kinda enjoying it more. I like the sound of Lou Reed’s voice over Metallica, there’s a logic to it. This album was conceived from a play, so it’s impossible based on these brief excerpts to judge how successful it is as a theatrical experience. I would be more intrigued if these excerpts displayed a wider range of tempo and mood.
The New York Times ran an amusing interview with them that makes me want to take it a little more seriously: “Powerhouses of Rock, Unite: LouTallica”
And Bravo to these guys for being willing to follow their passion and take a risk. The album may not make money, but maybe it will pave the way for other artists.
BTW, the best thing about these SoundCloud clips? The social media chatter about the music. I couldn’t stop laughing!
